Body

An abdominoplasty (commonly known as a tummy-tuck) is a surgical procedure that flattens the stomach both by removing excess skin and fat and by tightening the underlying musculature with sutures. Patients that have loose skin in addition to fat deposits that do not respond to exercise are ideal candidates for this surgery. This population generally includes post-partum females, and persons who have lost significant amounts of weight through diet and exercise.

The surgery is performed through a horizontal incision low on the abdomen. This incision is strategically placed to be hidden by undergarments. Dr. Rodgers combines liposuction with his abdominoplasty and places higher tension out laterally to attain the ideal “hourglass” contour. Depending on patient preference, an overnight stay can be arranged. It will be difficult for the patient to stand erect for several days after surgery due to the newly tightened muscles. Drainage tubes are placed and generally removed within 5 to 7 days.
